2024–25 Indiana Pacers season 2024–25 NBA season by team
NBA professional basketball team season
The 2024–25 Indiana Pacers season is the 58th season of the franchise and the 48th season in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Rick Carlisle returned for his 8th season as head coach as the Pacers will look to continue building up on last season's success, which saw them reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since their 2012–13 and 2013–14 seasons .
During free agency, the team lost backup centers Jalen Smith to the Chicago Bulls and Oscar Tshiebwe to the Utah Jazz . In response, the franchise acquired James Wiseman (2020 2nd overall pick) and Jahlil Okafor (2015 3rd overall pick).
Draft
The Pacers entered the draft (which was two days instead of one like it had been since the NBA draft was shortened down to two rounds back in 1989 ) with three second-round picks, acquired in deals surrounding Victor Oladipo , Buddy Hield , and Pascal Siakam .[ 4] [ 5] On the second day of the draft, the Pacers traded Spanish point guard Juan Núñez , the 36th pick and cash considerations to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for the 35th pick, Johnny Furphy . They would also select point guard Tristen Newton and Enrique Freeman from the NCAA champion University of Connecticut and University of Akron respectively as the back-to-back 49th and 50th picks of the draft.
