American entrepreneur, financier, and movie producer
Christopher Woodrow is an American entrepreneur, financier, and movie producer. He is the founder and chairman of Media Capital Technologies. Woodrow has financed and produced over 40 feature films, including Birdman , which won four Oscars , including Best Picture .
Early life
Woodrow was born on July 19, 1977, in Syracuse, New York . He attended the University of Alabama from 1995-1999.[ 1]
Career
Woodrow moved to New York City in 2001 to work on Wall Street in investment banking at Oppenheimer & Co. before becoming a vice president at Citigroup Global Markets in 2003. He then served as managing director of Prospect Point Capital, an investment company focused on structured finance and venture capital opportunities in media and entertainment from 2005-2007.[ 2]
Woodrow was the founder and served as chairman and CEO of Worldview Entertainment ,[ 3] [ 4] a motion picture finance and production company from 2007-2014, and its successor, Vendian Entertainment,[ 5] from 2014-2016. During this period, Woodrow financed and produced over 30 feature films,[ 6] including Birdman , Black Mass , and Hacksaw Ridge , which grossed more than $700 million in worldwide box office revenue, were nominated for 16 Academy Awards , and won six Oscars, including Best Picture.
Woodrow financed and produced other independent films during this era, including Killer Joe ,[ 7] The Green Inferno ,[ 8] The Immigrant ,[ 9] The Neon Demon and Triple 9 . He was named one of 10 Producers To Watch by Variety in 2012[ 10] and one of five Producers To Watch by Deadline at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013.[ 11] Woodrow was an event chair of amfAR 's 21st annual Cinema Against AIDS Gala at the Hôtel du Cap in 2014.
Woodrow moved to Los Angeles in 2017. He was the founder and CEO of MovieCoin, a Cryptocurrency -based entertainment finance company from 2017-2018.[ 12] [ 13]
Woodrow has been the founder and chairman of Media Capital Technologies (MCT), a specialty finance company that invests in premium content, since 2019. MassMutual acquired a controlling interest in the company in 2021. MCT closed a multi-year slate co-financing deal with Lionsgate in 2023.[ 14]
