The second Gearhead is Nathaniel Finch, a former engineer at General Robotics.[2] After kidnapping his boss' daughter Gloria Osteen, he encounters Batman, falls into Gotham's waters, and is presumed dead before Doctor Bascomb rescues him and gives him prosthetics to replace his frostbitten limbs.[3] Subsequently, he attempts to get revenge on Batman, only to be repeatedly foiled.[4]
In No Man's Land, Gearhead competes for control of Gotham after it is ravaged by an earthquake, during which he allies with the thug Tommy Mangles.[5] The two are later defeated by Robin and arrested.[6]
Gearhead appears in the miniseries Rush City, where he is physically attached to his car and allies with Arthur Bellingame before being defeated by Rush and Black Canary.[7]
The Nathaniel Finch incarnation of Gearhead has genius-level intellect and wields cybernetic limbs and other devices.
In other media
The Nathaniel Finch incarnation of Gearhead appears in The Batman, voiced by Will Friedle.[9] This version is a criminal racer who can remotely hack into and upgrade vehicles and possesses retractable claws.
Two action figures of Gearhead, referred to as "Metal Head" for legal reasons, were produced as part of Mattel's The Batman toyline.
The Batman incarnation of Nathan Finch / Gearhead appears in The Batman Strikes!, which reveals that he was previously an underground racing celebrity before being injured in an accident that left him quadriplegic and receiving cybernetic enhancements from an unknown benefactor.[10]
