Bound from Antwerp , Belgium , to New York City carrying either 200 passengers or 200 passengers and crew (sources disagree) and a cargo of plate glass and iron wire , the 2,538-gross register ton Red Star Line steamship was wrecked at Long Branch, New Jersey , United States in a gale with heavy fog , coming to rest on top of the wreck of the barque Adonis ( Bremen ) . All on board survived and had been brought ashore by the morning of 18 March. She broke in half on 8 April and was declared a total loss , and her wreck eventually sank in 25 feet (8 m) of water. Her wreck and that of Adonis are known as the "Dual Wrecks."[ 60]
