County in Fars, Iran
Shiraz County (Persian : شهرستان شیراز ) is in Fars province, Iran . Its capital is the city of Shiraz .[ 3]
History
After the 2006 National Census, Kavar District was separated from the county in the establishment of Kavar County ;[ 4] Korbal District was separated to establish Kharameh County ;[ 5] and Sarvestan District was separated from the county in the establishment of Sarvestan County .[ 6] The village of Khaneh Zenyan was elevated to the status of a city,[ 7] and Sadra was upgraded to a city as well.
After the 2016 census, Zarqan District was separated from the county in the establishment of Zarqan County .[ 8] Additionally, Siyakh Darengun Rural District was separated from the Central District in the formation of Siyakh Darengun District , which was divided into two rural districts, including the new Darengun Rural District .[ 9]
Demographics
Population
At the time of the 2006 census, the county's population was 1,676,927 in 427,268 households.[ 10] The following census in 2011 counted 1,700,687 people in 481,239 households.[ 11] The 2016 census measured the population of the county as 1,869,001 in 567,567 households.[ 2]
