Template talk:American frontier
Scope? This is a very ambiguous topic whose dimensions could be taken to broad extremes... which I'm not completely averse to; however, I have clashed with editors who will go after the template for that reason. I would suggest defining the years in the title on the template, i.e. "American Old West: 18.. to 18.." • Freechild'sup? 07:02, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Correct title? The American Frontier includes the initial expansion of the 13 colonies, (including such things as the Northwest Territory, Franklin, Daniel Boone and the Wilderness Trail, the Chickamauga Cherokee, Lousiana Purchase, etc.) and may not adhere to the author's intent of this template. Wouldn't "Old West" or something similar work better? The "American Frontier" is HUGE in scope for a single template. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 16:10, 24 March 2013 (UTC) WikiCleanerUsed WikiCleaner and found typo in "Tucson" and updated a few links to WP pages. Funandtrvl (talk) 04:29, 8 October 2008 (UTC) Added significant citiesI was looking at this template and was surprised by not only how disorganized the state/territory town list was, but by how incomplete it was. There were numerous towns with considerable-to-major historical significance for the Old West that were completely left out. For example, you can't have a list for Montana and not include places like Helena (the richest town in the U.S. during its gold rush years); or the Dakota Territory without any acknowledgment of Bismarck or Fargo; or Washington state with no inclusion of Vancouver (the site of Fort Vancouver and a major U.S. fur trading post). Oregon didn't even have its own section, which I also found bizarre given the rich history surrounding the Oregon Territory and Oregon Trail. In any case, I tried to clean this up and add relevant, historically-significant towns to these sections. --Drown Soda (talk) 09:03, 7 October 2016 (UTC) Florida territoryI think this belongs - there was a lot of action along that frontier (Georgia - Spanish Florida). As putting it in is not a trivial task, I’m asking here if anyone has any problem with it. deisenbe (talk) 13:41, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
can we please split up this navbox?would it be ok to create a separate navbox, to split off the towns and states listed in this navbox? they seem kind of arbitrary to me. why not simply list every town west of the missiippi, that was founded between 1800 and 1912?
